Utilize These Recycling Tips to Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is on April 22, and it’s more important than ever to take care of our planet. Becoming more eco-friendly may seem overwhelming, especially if you don’t know where to begin, but there are some simple and easy ways to add to your daily routine that truly will make a difference. This year, let’s celebrate Earth Day and also take action to care for this amazing gift we’ve been given for future generations to come.

Go Reusable

One of the easiest ways to start reducing your carbon footprint is to purchase a reusable coffee cup, water bottle, and utensil set. You don’t have to give up your morning latte at your favorite coffee shop, but instead take a reusable coffee mug with you. There are some cool designs and colors out there, and multiple sizes and shapes to fit your needs. Also, a major bonus of a reusable coffee cup is that your coffee will stay hot for much longer than a paper cup! Keeping a reusable water bottle with you at all times will not only keep you more hydrated, but will ensure that you’re not purchasing single-use bottles or cups simply because you don’t have another way of transporting water. A reusable utensil set will also reduce your use of single-use plastics, and you’ll never be without a fork, knife, or spoon. Lastly, see which of your go-to products can be refilled over and over again from larger containers. Coral Isles 2oz and 6oz bottles can be refilled from the quart and gallon sizes, for example. You can still have the portability needed for an on-the-go sunscreen, without throwing away the container every time. It’s more cost-effective too; a win-win!

Recycle and Reduce

Recycling may seem like a pain, but with a little planning, it can become second nature. Start by putting a recycling bin near or next to your trash can so you can easily make the right decision. Educate yourself and those in your home on the recycling programs in your community. There may be large bins at local grocery stores or retail chains, or a local business that may collect certain types of recyclables. You can search for a recycling center near you here. Another great way to recycle is to reduce your usage of non-recyclable items as much as possible. Reuse glass jars for food storage, purchase food and other products from the bulk bins at your local grocery store instead of buying boxed, wrapped, or prepackaged items, and try using washable towels and cloths instead of paper towels.

Purchase Eco-Friendly Items

You still have to purchase packaged items, but you can vote with your dollar and buy from companies that are choosing to make a different on the planet. Many companies are making the switch to wind and solar power, offering employee incentives for carpooling and working from home, and choosing to purchase goods from local areas to reduce their carbon footprint. You can also choose to buy products that are eco-friendly and kinder to the environment than their counterparts. By supporting these companies and buying their products, you’re choosing to support an eco-friendly business.
